Resistance Breathing
- For a little while, try taking your mind completely off the frustration or stressful situation.
- Sit down (or lay down) and relax every muscle in your body so that you’re loose, like a rag doll.
- Take a big inhale so that you’re filling your lungs up like a balloon, and then put your lips close together so the air comes out slowly. Don’t force the air out. If you fill your lungs all the way up, the air will want to come out. Just create some resistance to the outflow by putting your lips close together. The exhales should last up to 10 or 15 seconds.
- While you are letting air out, it’s important that you lower your shoulders and completely relax your body. As you’re exhaling, pay attention to sensations in your arms and legs. You might notice tingling or warming sensations. The whole process should have a relaxing effect on you. (If it doesn’t, you probably aren’t doing it quite right)
