Free Introductory Seminar:
The Science of Love
Periodic
introductory seminars take audiences on a tour through the exciting
studies that have pinpointed the habits that are necessary to
succeed in an intimate relationship. Audiences also learn about
brain studies that have unlocked the secrets of how we can develop
new emotional habits. Offered approximately every month, these
seminars are an excellent introduction to the programs offered at
the Couples Clinic.
Four Week Seminar: The Prerequisites for Relationship Success
A series of landmark studies in the past three decades have identified
exactly what people who succeed in their intimate relationships do
differently than those who fail. Researchers discovered a core set
of emotional habits that that are so powerfully positive that, when
people have them, they end up having satisfying long-term relationships
over 90% of the time. This kind of predictive validity is
virtually unheard of in most branches of science, and has captured the
attention educators across the country, spurring the development of
courses that teach this core set of habits that are so highly predictive
of relationship success. Most people believe their habits will
enable them to succeed in their relationships, but available evidence
suggests that this is wishful thinking. Studies suggest that most
people don’t meet the prerequisites for relationship success. It’s
not surprising then, that half of all people who marry in the U.S.
eventually divorce, and at least half of the couples who stick it out
are unhappy with their relationships. Most of us don’t have the
habits needed to make our relationships succeed over the long haul.
In fact, most people don’t even know what these crucial habits are.
The 4-week seminar, The Prerequisites for Relationship Success is
designed to teach the core set of emotional habits that are needed for
any of us to succeed in our love relationships.

Practice Groups:
Developing
Habits for relationship Success
Studies suggest that when we get upset, a
predictable cascade of thoughts and reactions unfold. This is why
couples so often report they have the same old fights, over and over.
Neither partner is able to break out of their conditioned habits of
reacting to the other. It’s a mistake to think that just because
you’ve learned some new habits you’ll be able to do them – especially at
the moments when you’re upset. Developing new emotional
habits requires repetitive practice, just like learning other skills
such as playing the piano or serving a tennis ball. The full range
of emotional habits that are needed for one to be
effective in relationships do not come naturally for most of us, and if
we’re going to change our knee-jerk reactions, we need to find a context
that supports and encourages sustained practice. Practice groups
are a perfect setting for you to maintain a focus on developing new
emotional habits. Click here for more
